ABOUT DARING ADVENTURES IN LOVE & LOSS:
The genesis of this course: In the last 5 years since my divorce, I’ve been actively exploring themes of love, in particular cultivating self-love. I realized after my sudden split and heartbreak, that it was an inside job and proceeded to heal myself through paint.
This class has been calling to me in title since the split and finally feels ripe to offer to you! Whether you’ve recently broken up with someone, have experienced a loss of someone close to you, want to invite more love into your life, or are saddened by our political divide and want to bring more love into the world. It always comes back to LOVE.
In life, we are always surfing the brink of love and loss. Every day there are small and giant ways that we experience both feelings, sometimes simultaneously.
What will this class look like?
Every week there will be a new theme on the topic of LOVE. Day One there will be a Painting Video + Prompt. You don’t need to have fancy materials— paint and a journal from the grocery store work… as well as canvases if you’d like to expand on the lessons.
This class is for you to feel uplifted and for your heart to expand through art= he(art). There will also be some letting go of old layers involved and brilliant interviews with artists, therapists and teachers on the theme of inviting in love.
Through the energy of this class we are sure to create an incredible LOVE BOMB that will ripple out for goodness into the world.
“Take your broken heart, make it into art”— Carrie Fisher <3
THE DARING ADVENTURES COMMUNITY & HOW THIS WORKS:
EACH WEEKDAY OF THE 6 WEEKS YOU WILL RECEIVE A NEW POST! Participants will have the opportunity to make comments and ask questions each week on the topic area. We will have a safe, private classroom for more discussion + sharing. Participants are encouraged to post images of their painting progress in the group (visible only to fellow participants) and leave questions + feedback for their classmates.
WHAT’S IT LIKE TO TAKE AN E-COURSE WITH ME? I’ll let my students take this one:
Mati Rose stands in that magical intersection of art and truth-telling. She’s a soulful storyteller and a powerful teacher. Dare to get messy. Create. And find some joy.”
– Dr. Brené Brown
I’m so sad to not get any more emails of a new lesson ? BUT the lessons I have learned through this amazing course has exceeded any expectation. I showed up and practiced everything taught and this my friends is a HUGE accomplishment for me. Thank you Mati from the bottom of my heart for offering such a soulful and beautiful course. I personally feel as though I have blossomed. I have nurtured, I have learned how to truly self love, and I can leave this course glowing. Thank you to all the beautiful souls here! I hope we all cross paths again in the near future.”
Thank you for all those wonderful videos you have set up! I’ve been listening to them over and over while painting or cooking! I’ve had burst of painting and nothing during those days, but I have also been watching, listening and feeling daring because of the time I have allowed myself to do art and enjoy it… why didn’t I allow myself before blows me away! I love it so much and thank you for giving me that gift again.”
Mati’s prowess with paint is so inspiring! I thought it was going to feel really daunted painting with her, because she’s so talented, but instead I felt more freedom to express myself and my unique style than ever before! She made me feel comfortable, and at the same time encouraged me to push the envelope, get messy and keep going.
Mati’s years of experience as a professional artist has given her an incredible wellspring of tools to help others on this path. Whether it be guidance around a particular technique, or simply an encouraging cheer reminding me I am on the right track, Mati’s taught me how to stretch my creative muscles and infuse play and adventure into all areas of my life!”

MATI ROSE MCDONOUGH is an artist and daring adventurer whose name is pronounced Matey, like Ahoy! She is an Oakland, California based artist, illustrator, painting teacher and author of “Daring Adventures in Paint”. After wanting to be an artist for many years, but feeling like it was “impractical,” at 29 years Mati took the leap and went back to art school at the California College of the Arts. Almost 10 years later, she is still excited and terrified every time she sees a blank canvas. She has had dozens of art shows, taught painting classes internationally and had her art used by clients Patagonia, University Games, Pier 1, as well as greeting cards, and her very own home decor line. She also has illustrated several children’s books including “i carry your heart” written by ee cummings.
Through her workshops, book, and popular online course, she spreads a warm message of creative courage: IT’S NEVER TOO LATE TO SHOW THE WORLD YOUR MAGIC.
