- They finally kick the inner critics to the curb and create a big, beautiful body of work. They take a few (or maybe 50) photos and then get on Instagram to post. But then, they get overwhelmed and chicken out, unsure of what to say, whether to include a price, and if so, what price to charge. And OMG, everyone is doing REELS! Will anyone even see my post? Why am I even trying???
- Sometimes, they muster the nerve to post their art, and someone actually contacts them about buying it. They freak out because they don’t know what to charge, how to ship their art properly, or how much it costs to ship a huge painting across the country.
- Sadly, they self-sabotage, charge too little, and the postage is almost equivalent to the price, leaving them feeling defeated and questioning if it’s even worth trying. Maybe, they think, I’ll just give away all my art to friends and donate my art supplies to the local school.
Eventually, these artists give up. I don’t blame them! Lacking confidence in sharing and selling their art is tough. Feeling like an imposter and believing their dreams are impossible to reach is even worse. But it DOES NOT have to be this way!

Looking back, a key factor in pursuing my dreams was working with a Life Coach who helped me push past my limiting beliefs. She supported me as I built up my portfolio, explored various artistic avenues (art therapy, graphic design, textile design), and mustered the courage to apply to art school. She cheered me on while I waitressed and dreamed of being a full-time artist. I eventually attended the California College of the Arts in the Illustration & Painting Program. After finishing the program, I pitched my art to my dream illustration agency and was represented by a top agent for seven years. Yay! I was on cloud nine, but still eating burritos and working around the clock.
My illustration career had commercial success—my art appeared on cards in big stores like Target, on a billboard in NYC, and in a dream home decor line with my designs on pillows, vases, and even a couch. I illustrated six children’s books and published two painting books. Despite these achievements, I was hustling to make a living, pulling all-nighters on tight deadlines, and taking every job that came my way. I wasn’t in control of my destiny and felt disconnected from my artwork. My agent would tell me butterflies were trending, so I’d paint butterflies.
At 36, I went through a sudden divorce. After six months of deep grief and little work, I had to pay my rent with zero savings. The only art I was creating were dark paintings inspired by Leonard Cohen (his line—there’s a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in). I did NOT want to return to waitressing, but I didn’t know how to get out of debt without falling back into the hustle.
I summoned the courage to hire another Creative Coach, who supported me in my next big step. She helped me while I was writing my first book, Daring Adventures in Paint, and encouraged me to develop my first solo online painting class by the same name. Within a day of sending out my art newsletter, I made $10k with 100 people signing up. By the time the class began, I had 350 people enrolled at $100 each, making $35k in a month! That was sadly almost what I was making in a year of illustration, despite having amazing gigs—companies paid creatives minimally, and the agency took half the profit.
More than just paying my rent, I loved seeing the transformation in the women I was teaching. When they dared on the canvas, they became daring in life—stepping out of their comfort zones, dating for the first time in years, getting their first art studios, and publishing their dream books. I expanded to teaching international art retreats in Costa Rica, Morocco, and Mexico, and started coaching other artists. The commercial art I was making before didn’t feel aligned, so I left my illustration agency.
Now, over 10 years later, I feel like I’ve cracked the code to creating financial and creative abundance as an artist making work I love. What changed? I realized I needed to LOVE and value myself and uplevel my worth. Through the darkness of my divorce, I learned I was the one I was waiting for and started to fully believe in myself and my voice. We need to be our fiercest advocates, but we also need the generous support of mentors and coaches to show us what’s possible and root for us. We are here to make our mark and show the world our magic!
By stepping into my business from a place of love and worthiness, I built a sustainable and thriving income while living in the pricey Bay Area. I did this through painting original abstract art, teaching online art classes and retreats, and sharing my passion by coaching other artists. In 2021, I upleveled by completing a coaching certification program through OCA to gain extra training in helping others overcome their limiting beliefs. I want to see other artists thrive and save them from my 20 years of trial and error by providing the quickest and most abundant path. STEP 3: MAKE YOUR ART IRRESISTIBLE & MARKETING EASY PEASY
I’ll teach you how to make your audience FALL IN LOVE with your art through your messaging and unique story. You’ll also learn how to create an easy, repeatable launch schedule to sell your painting collections, pitch your surface designs, and launch your dream classes. This includes 1:1 support in pitching and selling your big dreams—book deals, fabric lines, galleries, etc. We will customize our 1:1 coaching to suit your personal goals.
STEP 4: GROW OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE & CREATE RAVING FANS!
We’ll break down the nuts and bolts of how to post on Instagram authentically and connect with your ideal audience. You will receive one-on-one feedback if you desire on your online presence and learn how to enhance it with tips, tricks, tools, a content calendar, and support to #dorkitup on the gram with prompts, taking it all a whole lot less seriously!
